Final Presentation
My goal was to design a flexible, multi-purpose space, which
is seamlessly integrated and caters to all needs. It was not just a building to
facilitates effective different functions in the urban fabric but also creates
a park where nature and architecture become one
The concept was transforming the steep landscape to a
building for leisure, art, communal activities and living. It unfolded nature
and art along the entire landscape as independent component.

It is designed upon a desire to be a part of this city, its
country, its culture and its people and use in the favor of public activity
more rather than commercial and residential building.
The entire complex
provides programmed spaces for the foreseeable future
Circulation: The building has multiple entrance ways allowing easy
circulation for the people coming in. The visibility to the retail and food
court has been enhanced by the use of a large passageway space which also
serves as a mufti function area for other associated activities. Vertical
circulation is organized with escalators increasing accessibility to all levels
of the building.

SECTION B-B |
It is a comfortable place in each level to sit
protected from the mid-day sun and strong winds, or having BBQ.
Auditorium
Auditorium was located at a point lower than the rest of the
building. The plan shares the passageway with a space to be able to adapt to
changing conditions of use. It become the symbol for large and small
cultural events and concerts in the Paddington area which offered its beautiful
surroundings. The position was ideal because the Auditorium was at the end of
the building and then all the people come together in this .
It was a great place for the outdoor activities
for a variety of events, even the weekend markets with the retractable roofs
which provide a shade that is similar to cloud cover.
AUDITORIUM |
The passage way occupies between two parts of the
building, it is the liveliest space. It is open a large way which has strong
relationship with the city but also preserved from the traffic
An atmosphere with all the social activity and movement
create a fluid and evolutionary area. People could have profile in social activity area on the
digital wall or could use a gift wall for selling their ideas. They could use
this profile to do the online shopping and have an identity in paddington
central.
While people are
dancing on the floor, pressure is converted into energy by the sensors on the
floor and the converted energy can be displayed on an interactive screen.
Totally, it is an
area you could spend hours and hours there without being tired or board. They could
do the shopping easily while having drink or meal, dance or make a sculpture.

WK 11 - Tutorial
Transferring a concept to a Physical Model
Concept is inspired by counters which is followed by the mass

Planning
I was planning is based on the natural topography of the land.
The overall plan is very sensitive to the site`s topography, respecting natural ridges.
Green Arrows show the views.
Red Arrows and hatches show the people movement path.
The below picture is illustrating the pathway under the brigh which connect the retail to the food
court in under ground level.

Level two ( Residential Area) |
Visual issue
Cameron was advised that the building is not visually in contact with people scale in facade.
For finding the solution he offered a sunroof, balcony or designing something (Refer to below Sketch) to disconnect the vision of building hight to make the inspire visually comfort.

WK 11 - Lecture Reflection
In this lecture I found the architecture art from very small scale to the very big scale.
It was several points which were very important in this lecture.
Community
It was interesting to me the responding of architecture design to the particular community and how it was affected by various elements like political, social and ... elements. Maybe the most important part of this lecture was this expression "social motion of community engage". It takes me to consider how people would feel about the communal area that I am designing in my project.
Then He presented the Greece Pavilion which had the same function of my mixed used building. it shows the brilliant integrated of different kind of building: educational, retail, Dwelling which gave me some ideas to how blend the activities and beside that, some ideas of matching the scale of the dwelling area and retail to simultaneously work properly.
Interpreting the Past
I found out that my design should be connected to the past and future like a sequential hierarchy. It means I should deal with history of the Paddington Area and consider to somehow be relevant to the future of that area.
The sense
The Senes??? The entire sensational elements of the building like: light, sound, temperature should be under the consideration of the designer. In presentation ,It was showed the photo (below) that how a designer could connected the people sensation together.
Process
It was showing how the physical model can help to the exploration of the physical space which gave me the idea to make the physical model which would be attached later.

WK 10 - Tutorial
In this tutorial I realized that I missed some of important points in my design procedure which I am going to expand them below .
Look at the sun position in Summer and Winter (10th of June)
Point Four: Missed the building Volume
I was Advised by Cameron to start make a simple physical model, could be a peace of paper which fold or curve to provide better understanding of the shapes, volume and connection of the building.
Probably I will make the topography model for having the levels first, , then I will go through on shapes and connections.
Point One: Unorganized space connection
Cameron advised me to list area of the required spaces, then put them in the organized arrangement in order to catch the best spatial relation and connection as a diagram. That would be convert to volume of the building in the next several steps.Drawing by Cameron - Tutorial week 10 5/10/2012 |
Point tow: Missed educational space the week 9 spatial diagram and expand parking area
I was wondering to set the library in the last level , however Cameron recommended it would .... with residential area which is not a correct circulation.
Point Three: Sun direction consideration
In residential part I was facing with the direct light from north side which would be annoying during the summer when sun is in the highest position. In order to solve this problem we find the solution which illustrated in the black circle below.

WK 10 - Lecture Reflection
This Lecture has four Key words which should significantly implied in architectural design sequence:
Engaging, applying, exercising and realizing
I could extract some points from her slides and presentation which take my attention on the procedure of creating a concept and then convert it to the reality.
- How she analyzed the site and illustrated in the different aspects: environmentally, economically and ... .
- Being creative in planning, diagramming and listing the spatial needs and details. ( Look at the different diagram below)
Creative diagram of Light, ornament, views and site |
Specific Detailing |
Diagram of views and people movement |
- Various elements which could help a building to cooperate with the society successfully
- Implied various architectural software to present her concept comprehensively and give a good understanding of that to the client.
- Documentation of the project procedure.
